BE-ST Z-Lab, Glasgow, Scotland

BE-ST (Built Environment – Smarter Transformation) is an international centre of excellence supported by Scottish Government, Scottish Funding Council and Scotland’s Enterprise Agencies and is a partner in the IUK grant funded ALCHEMAI project. BE-ST collaborates across the entire built environment ecosystem, bringing together four key stakeholder groups; industry, academia, government & public sector, and Scotland’s citizens to accelerate the transition to zero carbon.

BE-ST’s Zero Carbon Innovation Lab hosts their Innovation Factory, and is providing a test bed for the ALCHEMAI project. Elemental Power is using data collected from BE-ST’s ‘Z-Lab’ to feed into EPOCH, our modelling engine which rapidly simulates millions of feasible energy upgrade scenarios to pinpoint the most cost-effective sustainable solutions for a business site or portfolio. Underlying this is a digital twin of Z-Lab – a virtual copy of the entire local energy system –, which establishes operational emissions, capital expenditure, operational costs, and payback timelines for any energy upgrade scenario. This has enabled us to recommend cost effective interventions that can reduce carbon and improve the performance and comfort of the building.
